As you first enter the Windmill you cannot help but feel like you are stepping back in time. From the spiral staircase with the leather bound banister, to the curved rooms and the tapestry hanging in the hall depicting the history of the Windmill and giving the following information:
In 1812 the present windmill was built, John Clifton making a new lease with Christopher & John Waddington requiring them to construct the brick tower mill. They were permitted to lease it for 40 years. A dispute followed, and in 1838 Christopher claimed that the agreed ground rent was 5 shillings per year for 40 years, but having built the mill he was forced to pay £10 per year instead, making it uneconomical to work.
